Hedgecock Conversion and Field Updates

THE BIG UPDATE

Hedgecock Field sees Huge Makeover

Over the past year, the collaboration between Beachside Little League and the City of Satellite Beach has produced amazing results in the form of transformative updates to Hedgecock Field. From the planning sessions with the Satellite Beach Recreation Department and Public Works, to the swift execution of the enhancements, the journey has been nothing short of remarkable.

I’m sure some of you have seen the work happening, or visited the field and noticed the BIG CHANGE, but Hedgecock has recently underwent a monumental change with the conversion from a 50/70 only field to a versatile multi-use field. This will open the door to turning Hedgecock into dynamic hub for our softball program, as well as baseball, across all ages in Satellite Beach. What’s even more impressive is the speed at which this project unfolded.

As the 2023 seasons came and went, and the Spring 2024 season rapidly approached, I didn’t think this update would be in the works until next year. However, during a recent meeting with Satellite Beach Public Works this project was quickly moved to the top of their priority list. Within days, the wheels were set in motion, and the field was well on its way to becoming a gem for Beachside Little League and District 2 as a whole.

The meticulous process began with the removal of grass from the infield area and the leveling of the existing pitching mound. The irrigation system underwent strategic relocation, encircling the infield clay that would soon be introduced. The city spared no effort in mixing and leveling the infield to create a pristine playing surface. Two dump truck loads of high-quality clay and over two tons of Duraedge field conditioner were meticulously applied to enhance playability and ensure superior drainage.

To accommodate various divisions outside of 50/70 baseball, which has seen low participation in our league and District, the installation of base anchors at both 60 feet and 70 feet is underway. This addition ensures flexibility to tailor the field according to the age group playing at any particular time. Additionally, our league is investing in a top-of-the-line portable game mound, an asset that will make it possible for baseball to play at Hedgecock along with our growing softball program.

With these remarkable improvements, Hedgecock Field is poised to reclaim its status as a major hub of youth sports in Satellite Beach. Our league, and the community, can look forward to a revitalized space that exceeds the expectations of players, parents, and spectators alike. I can’t wait to see what this season will bring with a new field that can be widely used for our league.

In addition to the remarkable transformation at Hedgecock, our league is thrilled to share two more game-changing updates that promise to elevate the Little League experience Beachside.

Sonshine Field Dugouts get a makeover

Year after year, one of the most requested enhancements has been to provide covered dugouts for our T-ball players at Sonshine Field. While the city had been cautious about making significant changes due to a lease expiration in a couple of years, we’re delighted to announce that covered areas for the dugouts are in the works. This project should be completed in time for our first games of the spring season.

Grabosky Field Practice Facility

Say goodbye to the traditional bullpen area at Grabosky because they’re undergoing a serious redesign. In an effort to meet the needs of our league, we’re thrilled to announce that the bullpen is making way for new, multi-lane batting cage. This will be a major improvement for our entire league. These cages will be open to the entire league, creating a space where players of all ages and skill levels can go to practice.

Timing is everything, but we have been told that the cages should also be ready to go by this season!

City Support
None of this is possible without the support of the City of Satellite Beach. The city's commitment to our success is a testament to the vital role Little League plays in fostering healthy, vibrant neighborhoods.
